New areas for ecosystem multifunctionality experiments

A new structure was recently installed in the Catimbau National Park to carry out ecological restoration and multifunctionality experiments on the Caatinga ecosystem. The experiment is divided into two areas, one focused on the restoration of woody species and the other, dominated by herbaceous species (photo), aims to investigate the influence of biodiversity on the functionality of the ecosystem. In the herbaceous plots, rainwater exclusion experiments will also be carried out. In the photo, it is also possible to see a pilot project of ecological restoration techniques for the Caatinga (rectangular area with exposed soil at the bottom of the photo) where different planting techniques are being tested.
