New areas for slash and burn research in the Caatinga are installed in the Catimbau National Park

In order to investigate the dynamics in the nutrient stock after the practice of slash and burn agriculture in the Caatinga and its subsequent regeneration, new plots were installed in the National Park of Catimbau. There are a total of 6 permanent plots of 50 x 20 m in which the practice of slash and burn was simulated, with the help of trained fire brigade. We expect to understand which nutrients are lost after this practice and what are their implications for the recovery of vegetation after land management. These plots will be explored by several PELD Catimbau researchers who will be able to develop projects related to nutrient cycling and the natural regeneration of the Caatinga. In the future, we will be able to understand a little more about how this practice affects this ecosystem.
